The Legatum Institute focuses on understanding, measuring, and explaining the journey from poverty to prosperity for individuals, communities, and nations.
Ideas have a profound influence on the formation of society; from the values we embrace individually, to the form of government we choose collectively and the policies we support.
The Legatum Institute is an independent international think tank based in London and a registered UK charity. The work of the Institute focuses on understanding, measuring, and explaining the journey from poverty to prosperity for individuals, communities, and nations and on promoting the policies and practices which enable this transition.
The Legatum Prosperity Index, the Institute’s signature publication, provides a lens through which to view a comprehensive assessment of national success. Prosperity is more than just the accumulation of material wealth, it is also the joy of everyday life and the prospect of an even better life in the future. This is true for individuals as well as nations. The Legatum Prosperity Index offers a unique insight into how prosperity is forming and changing across the world.
The Institute runs several research programmes including the Special Trade Commission led by economist Shanker Singham, which promotes research into how the British economy may best be served in light of the UK electorate’s decision to leave the European Union.
