Mark joined Sovereign Group, Legatum’s predecessor firm, in 2005. When Legatum was launched in 2006, Mark served as its first President and was then appointed as CEO in 2010.

Under Mark’s leadership, Legatum has built a world-class investment team and business spanning global capital markets, private equity and venture capital. In addition to the firm’s commercial success, Mark has helped to nurture some of Legatum’s most notable philanthropic endeavours. These include Legatum’s three collaborative funds - the END Fund, Luminos Fund and Freedom Fund - which have collectively changed millions of lives for the better.

Christopher Chandler, Chairman of Legatum, said:

“Mark has chalked up a remarkable two decades with the firm. Since becoming CEO of Legatum, Mark has been integral to the firm’s commercial success and the establishment of many innovative philanthropic initiatives. In particular, the END Fund, the Freedom Fund and Luminos have all been pioneers in the area of collaborative philanthropy, which brings benefactors together to empower community-led organisations working on the front lines of development.

Mark leaves behind him an organisation that remains committed to continuing the mission of making and allocating capital to make a more prosperous world.”

Mark Stoleson added:

“I am very proud that Legatum has built a world-class investment business that uses its resources to execute on the mission to help others prosper. I am grateful for all that my colleagues and I have accomplished together over the past two decades as we worked toward both commercial success and also real impact in the philanthropic and policy arenas.

What makes me most proud is the culture that we have built at Legatum, which is focused on our core values of freedom, responsibility, excellence, elegance and a culture of honour. With those values firmly embedded in the DNA of Legatum, I have every confidence that the firm will continue to go from strength to strength.”

Legatum continues to be led by its Partners, Christopher Chandler, Philip Vassiliou and Alan McCormick, backed by a long-standing senior leadership team.
