Sanergy provides safe, affordable and accessible sanitation and waste management solutions for growing cities. Takachar transforms massive amounts of waste biomass into marketable products around the world. They are among 15 of the first ever finalists up for the award.
The Earthshot Prize is the most prestigious global environment prize in history, designed to discover and scale the most inspiring and innovative solutions to the biggest environmental challenges facing the Earth. The Prize aims to turn the current pessimism surrounding environmental issues into optimism, by highlighting the ability of human ingenuity to bring about change, and inspiring collective action.
Legatum CEO Mark Stoleson said: "Delighted that Prince William of the United Kingdom has announced two Legatum Fellow founded ventures as finalists for the inaugural Earthshot Prize. Sanergy and Takachar are inspiring initiatives and it is amazing that their work to solve seemingly impossible problems is being recognised. With COP 26 just around the corner, there is no better time to celebrate the good business and philanthropy can do in creating enabling environments in which people can earn their own prosperity across the world. Congratulations to all the finalists!"
