Over 40 million people live in modern slavery worldwide and over 70 percent of them are women and girls.
Modern slavery takes many forms, but no matter what it is called, men, women and children have lost their freedom and are being exploited for profit.
This video outlines how the Freedom Fund’s hotspot model is empowering local frontline organisations to end modern slavery.
Some of these frontline partners work directly to free victims, while others address root causes by improving education, healthcare and jobs. Their work is essential, but in isolation, their influence is limited. The hotspot model brings these organisations together in a network which multiplies their collective impact.
The Freedom Fund was founded in mid-2013 by the Legatum Foundation, Humanity United and the Walk Free Foundation. Today, the Freedom Fund is a leader in the global movement to end modern slavery. It identifies and invests in the most effective frontline efforts to eradicate modern slavery in the countries and sectors where it is most prevalent. Partnering with visionary investors, governments, anti-slavery organisations and those at risk of exploitation, the Freedom Fund tackles the systems that allow slavery to persist and thrive.
