The UK government has announced that it will start publishing experimental poverty statistics in 2020 using the methodology developed by the Social Metrics Commission (SMC)
On Friday 17th May, the UK government announced that it will start publishing experimental poverty statistics in 2020 using the methodology developed by the Social Metrics Commission (SMC), an independent Commission formed and led by Philippa Stroud, former CEO of Legatum Institute. For over three years, the UK government has had no official poverty measure, resulting in the political debate being centred around how it should measure poverty rather than the action needed to drive better outcomes for the most disadvantaged in society.
