Legatum has been on the sharp end of a coordinated campaign recently which aims to discredit our business and the Legatum Institute’s work on global trade. The accusations have been fantastical, bewildering at times but also relentless. Not only have we experienced attacks in the media, we were attacked in Parliament, when four MPs used the protection afforded by Parliamentary privilege to make a number of ill-founded allegations about the Legatum Institute and Christopher Chandler, founder of the Legatum Group, from the floor of the House of Commons during a debate.
While we are all prepared for the cut and thrust of political debate and media reportage, the truth should not be a casualty. In amongst all the smears, half-truths and fantastical mischaracterisations of us, our partners and our team, a resolute fight-back has been underway. Wherever we can take action, we have – and we will continue to pursue every regulatory and legal option available, to ensure that the public record is set straight.
